About FitnessWorks

FitnessWorks and TherapyWorks are independently operated but integrated health facilities serving the residents of San Luis Obispo County's North Coast. We are committed to enhancing the health of a wide spectrum of individuals; from those requiring licensed and physician-guided physical therapy to people hoping to maintain and improve their health independently by using state of the art equipment and group fitness classes. With the talent, professionalism and energy of our staff, we will continue to improve the strength of our business and enhance the lives of our patrons. We will also remain involved in the community through support of worthy charitable organizations and by
providing professional and economic opportunities to the business
community and residents of Morro Bay.

Community Involvement
FitnessWorks is excited to now have the opportunity to reach out to the community in a variety of ways. Our increased size and client base allows us to be a part of a variety of charitable and community projects. We have proudly supported the following organizations:
  • Chamber of Commerce
  • Del Mar School
  • American Heart Association
  • Morro Bay High School Athletic Department
  • Morro Bay High School Music Department
  • San Luis High School Volleyball and Water Polo teams
  • Morro Bay Boys and Girls High School athletic teams

We have a scholarship program to provide memberships for a variety of fundraising causes.

During our Grand Opening event we gave a total of $1400 to Morro Bay High School and the American Heart Association.

    History
FitnessWorks evolved as a logical offshoot of Ross and Debbie Dover's small physical therapy practice originally known as Morro Bay Physical Therapy. With the move to the 1085 Kennedy Way site in June of 1992 (next to Dolly's Donuts), the business known as TherapyWorks came to be. The change was made for the following reasons:
    1. The need for more space for physical therapy
    2. The desire to work on preventative as well as rehabilitative therapy
    3. Morro Bay's need of a facility that would provide a healthy physical environment for former patients to continue on with exercises that would help them complete their rehabilitation
In addition, TherapyWorks added a small gym open to non-patients. This community gym was called FitnessWorks. The practice grew from one employee to fourteen at that time. There was a huge jump from 650 to 2225 square feet of office space. To begin the new venture, they purchased new exercise equipment and started to learn about the Fitness industry. Of course they continued to grow their physical therapy as well. Soon FitnessWorks and TherapyWorks became a place where people of all ages and fitness levels were welcome to exercise and socialize. Further expansion occurred again in 1998 as they added another 1000 square feet of office space.

All together they were in that location for 11 years (that's 15 overall years in Morro Bay!). There were extensive plans to move to a larger location in 2000. This plan did not come to pass. Many kind people said that maybe this was for the best. Ross and Debbie now believe them and thank them!

Ross casually mentioned to two friends that it was time for another expansion and wished to move to 500 Quintana, the former Rite Aid Building. In what now seems like an instant, wheels started turning and the building was secured for the future home of FitnessWorks and TherapyWorks.

It is Ross and Debbie Dover's goal to continue to:
    1. Maintain the friendly heart of our business
    2. Broaden the scope of the therapy and fitness businesses to be inclusive not exclusive. They want to have people of all ages and fitness levels walk in and feel welcomed and appropriately challenged
    3. Maintain a business that is a large employer in Morro Bay
    4. Help the community beyond the actual exercise and membership with outreach programs.
